Fenix PD35 Tactical Edition Flashlight Review

The PD35 Tactical Edition Flashlight is a  rugged, pocket sized and very bright flashlight from Fenix. I suppose you could say that it is like having a daytime switch in your pocket at all times. The PD35 Tac is an upgrade on the original PD35 boasting 40 more lumens totaling 1000 lumens. It is powered by one single 18650 battery or two CR123's which can run on full power for over an hour in 5 minute intervals. The PD35 is a floodlight rather than a spotlight so although the distance of the beam is pretty impressive in itself the flashlight is ideal for lighting up a large wide open space.

The PD35 is operated by a soft rubber tail button making it simple to switch on and off and also cycle through various modes. While we are on the subject of modes I'll discuss them now. The PD35 Tac has 2 main modes with a few separate settings on each mode.

Outdoor mode - Outdoor mode has 6 different settings and is activated using the little silver button on the side of the flashlight. These modes are eco, low, medium, high, full power and the strobe setting. This is perfect for use where do don't need the full 1000 lumen power output as you can choose from the 5 main settings for the correct level of brightness for the environment and situation.

Tactical Mode - Tactical mode is made up of 3 different settings. Full power, strobe and low power. These are toggled through by quick pressing the tail button until you have the desired setting. Full power gives you the full 1000 lumens but reverts to low power after 5 minutes to conserve power. The flashlight will then stay in low power until you cycle back through to full power or strobe mode.

The PD35 Tac wouldn't be very tactical if it didn't come with a belt clip and a bevelled base and tip, so it has those too. The belt clip on the flashlight is nice and tight so that the light doesn't come flying out of your pocket in those fast paced situations, but not too tight that you can't retrieve it quickly if you need it on the spot. The bevelled ends protect the PD35 from being dropped up to a height of one meter and can also be used to break glass or as a self defence tool if you really get yourself caught in a pickle. It also has a wrist strap just to double check that you're not going to drop it by mistake.

The PD35 also comes with a couple of O rings making sure it is waterproof enough to not pack in on you when you're caught in a storm or drop your keys down the drain. All of these features make the PD35 the perfect tool keeping you well lit whether you're in the darkest corner of the world or simply rummaging through the garage looking for the fuse box in the dead of night.

The PD35 Tactical edition isn't the toughest torch on the market, neither is it the brightest but as far as pocket sized flashlights go this one really is a fantastic choice. Its bright enough for clear vision up to about 100 metres in total dark and it will take a bashing if you decide to take it to the extreme. If you plan to use it on full power for long periods of time, just be sure to carry spare batteries as you will soon find yourself plunged into darkness without them.

Other than that the PD35 Tactical Edition would be my #1 pocket flashlight for any adventure or camping trip that I find myself on. I hope you find this article helpful the next time you are flashlight shopping for yourselves.

Until next time, Thank you for reading

Liam
